US women's football team stars tell story of fight for equal pay in new film LFG
Football game stars Megan Rapinoe and Jessica McDonald rested their cleats and walked the ruby-red carpet at the premiere of documentary LFG at the Tribeca Pic Festival, which tells the story of the fight for equal pay past the US women'south national team.
The players sued US soccer's governing body in 2022 over allegations of gender discrimination in compensation and most every other aspect of playing atmospheric condition.
Months after, they won a quaternary World Loving cup for the United states as fans chanted "equal pay" during the two-0 terminal triumph against the Netherlands.
Last year, a gauge threw out the players' claims that they were underpaid compared with the men's national team and weeks later denied the players' bid to appeal until the working conditions element of the lawsuit was settled.
On the red rug on Thursday (Jun 17), Rapinoe said she hopes that women encounter themselves in the film.
"We evidently know not everybody gets to stand up where I'chiliad standing with, y'all know, this mic and have a pic," Rapinoe said. "But then many people, and then many women around the world go through the exact same things that we're going through."
McDonald, who had a son in 2012, said she was thrilled to be a part of the film. "I felt as if the globe should know, hey, this is what we go through, particularly as moms."
The title of the film comes from the team'due south rally cry earlier a match – "Let'southward F***ing Go."
The motion picture will premiere on U.s.a. streaming service HBO Max on Jun 24.
